Throughout the process of research, analysis, and synthesis of our topic, my initial understandings had been cast aside and reoriented to real word science and application. When we originally decided on this topic, I was under the impression that music therapy for dementia was a practice that was already being used to a large effect. However, I was shocked to find out that despite the consensus of the research pointing towards positive results; There were surprisingly few examples of this being used in modern practice. In addition, I realized that music therapy is not only being used in studies with dementia but a large variety of psychological and neurological conditions. It is exciting to note that many studies that used a vaster group to study, ultimately had better conclusions and understandings of what affects music therapy has on the mind. With that, it has been challenging at times to separate research focused on other ailments like depression and anxiety. I look forward to composing our research in an organized way to accurately answer our original picot question to the best of our ability.
